Boat cutting across open blue water

PATENT PENDING — SHORESTEP SCISSOR STEP SYSTEM

Steps that ride the tide

The Alumarine ShoreStep is a bulkhead-mounted scissor step system — foot-activated, soft-closing, and built from aircraft-grade aluminum. Fold it out, stop it at any height across 180 degrees, and step aboard safely at any tide.

The invention

Why I built it

Every idea starts with something that broke.

Mine was a fixed ladder bolted to the bulkhead — perfect twice a day and useless the rest of the tide. At low water the steps hung out of reach. At high water they were half-drowned. Getting on your own boat should never be a negotiation with the water level.

So I built the ShoreStep on the Great South Bay of Long Island: a bulkhead-mounted scissor step system that folds in and out at the tap of a foot, swinging up or down through 180 degrees as the tide moves. Manufactured in the USA, one product done completely — built the way a machinist would build it for their own dock.

How it works

On your dock in an afternoon

01

Fold it out

The foot-activated fold-out swings the scissor linkage from the bulkhead in seconds — no bending, no wrestling. A soft-close mechanism controls every inch of travel, and you can stop it at any height.

02

It finds the tide

Through a full 180 degrees of travel, the steps stop wherever you want them — and ride up or down with the water. Dock high or dock low, always level underfoot.

Step aboard

Non-slip aluminum decking under every step makes boarding sure-footed, wet or dry. When you're done for the day, the whole system folds in flat against the bulkhead.
